Noninvasive testing in the “Blood Flow Lab”, as the name implies, allows patients to be examined using state-of-the-art Doppler Ultrasound (Duplex Scanning) techniques and Plethysmography to safely and comfortably diagnose almost all known or suspected vascular disorders. Testing can often determine the severity of the problems and therefore the need for treatment.

The laboratory is run by trained Vascular Ultrasound Technologists under the supervision of a Specialist Vascular Surgeon, both with cumulated experience of over 15 years. A full range of non-invasive tests is available at our Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory including tests for:

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)

Blockages in the circulation to the arms or legs due to atherosclerosis or other diseases, which may lead to limb loss.

  • Doppler arterial exams of the legs or arms (Physiologic testing)
  • Pulse Volume Recordings, Segmental Pressures, Ankle Brachial Indices and toe pressures for assessment of arterial circulation
  • Treadmill exercise testing for claudication (leg pain with walking)

Cerebrovascular Disease

Carotid artery duplex scanning for preventing strokes via early screening.

Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT)

Venous duplex scan of the arms or legs in patients with acute limb swelling or pain.

Aortic Aneurysms

Aortic duplex scan for detection of this potentially lethal pathology. Peripheral arteries can also be scanned for aneurysms

Chronic Venous Disease

Venous duplex scanning has now become the gold standard for diagnosing varicose veins and determining the site/s of valvular incompetence. Photoplethysmography (PPG) and Air plethysmography (APG) are also available for investigating more confusing cases of leg swelling.
